Water scarcity has prompted Israel from its very inception to develop efficient water management methods - initially by transporting fresh water from the North to the more arid South. Later, great efforts were made to further diversify Israel's water resources, devising ever more efficient ways of treating waste water, and building large-scale desalination plants which already today provide large quantities of much-needed water to the national network.
Still more plans are being developed for the construction of a massive canal that would connect the Red Sea with the fast-drying Dead Sea, along which more desalination plants would be built to the benefit of Israel and its neighbors.
