    Since its establishment, Israel's economy has developed from an agricultural to a knowledge-based and export-oriented economy, with its main markets in Europe, North America and Asia. Investment in human capital and technological innovation has compensated for the relative scarcity of water and other natural resources.
    Today, hi-tech companies in areas ranging from software to biotechnology and cyber security are a major driver of growth in the country's economy. Many leading international technology firms have opened research and development centers in Israel.
