You can look up those rules and regulations on the Ministry of the Interior website, (it is in Hebrew). Search word: RULES
By Israeli law, Israeli citizens must report any change in their marital status/birth of a new child within 30 days.
Registration of New Israeli Citizen
A child of an Israeli citizen (one or both of the parents) is an Israeli citizen by birth. The child needs to be registered as a citizen, and travel to Israel using an Israeli passport.
In the case that the parents are not married (de-facto) or separated / divorced, you will need to contact the Consular Section for instructions.
In order to register your child as an Israeli citizen, you need to provide the Consular Section with the following:
Please send the following in a 'Track and Trace' Envelope:
Please note: In section a. - write the first and last names in Hebrew. The child's name in English will be copied from his/her Birth Certificate.
3. Photocopies of both parents' passports (Israeli / NZ)
4. A self-addressed 'Track and Trace' envelope for the return of your documents. Please make sure that the envelope will be big enough for the return of the Birth Certificate.
After registering your child, you can apply for a minor's passport. For instructions, please see Passports section.
Marital Status
It is your responsibility to update the Embassy with any changes in your marital status.
For this matter, you need to provide the Consular Section with the local Marriage/Divorce/Widow/Death certificate, signed with an Apostille stamp. The stamp can be obtained through the '
Department of Internal Affairs'.
Married or divorced women can change their surname to their husband's name or to their maiden name accordingly, (please see name change due to marriage section below).
Please send the following in a 'Track and Trace' envelope:
1. Your original marriage certificate, certified with an Apostille stamp.
2. A copy of the Israeli and NZ passports for yourself and your spouse.
3. A self-addressed 'Track and Trace' envelope for the return of your documents.
Without the signatures, the application will not be processed.
Name Change
Every Israeli citizen has the right to change his/hers names.
There are two different procedures:
Last name change - due to marriage/divorce (see procedure above).
General name change (no special circumstance):
This change needs to be approved by the Ministry of Interior in Israel.
In case the name change is for a minor (under 18), please contact the Embassy.
Please send the following by a 'Track and Trace' envelope:

If you require either certificate to be used outside of Israel, you require an Apostille stamp, which costs an additional NZ$11.
This process may take up to one month.

Renouncing Israeli Citizenship
The process for relinquishing citizenship is intended for an Israeli citizen living abroad who wishes to renounce his or her Israeli citizenship for any reason whatsoever. This is implemented by providing a declaration of the desire to renounce the citizenship, along with relevant documents and an application to the Ministry of Interior for its authorisation. It is important to note that the decision to authorise a renunciation of citizenship is made at the sole discretion of the Minister of the Interior or anyone appointed by him. As long as such authorisation is not given, the person who made the declaration is still an Israeli citizen. Renouncing citizenship takes a few months, please be patient. It should be noted that there have been a few cases where the Minister saw fit, for various reasons, not to authorise a renunciation of citizenship.
A person who wishes to submit an application to renounce Israeli citizenship must appear in person (in the case of a minor both parents must appear in person) to the Consular Department. Before applying for a renunciation of Israeli citizenship, a person must notify the Population Registry of their current personal status and that of all relatives information associated with this. (Any changes in marital status or/and birth of children).
A meeting needs to be scheduled in advance by phone: 04 - 4399514 or via email: consular@wellington.mfa.gov.il
Parents who renounce their citizenship can include their children on the same form.
Please note that the decision of renunciation of Israeli Citizenship for a person between the age of 14 and 26 is submitted to the army authorities.
Please bring with you the following:
Authorisation of other citizenship.
2. NZ$116 for each application
3. In case you need to provide an Official Authority outside of Israel with the certificate, it should bear an Apostille stamp. You need to pay NZ$11 for the Apostille stamp.
This process may take up to six months, please be patient.
