Joel Lion is an Israeli diplomat, an ordained Orthodox rabbi, a loving husband to Rivka and the proud father of eight children.
Since immigrating to Israel from Luxemburg in 1982, Lion has served the country in a number of increasingly significant positions; beginning with a tour of duty as a Sergeant Major in an Israeli artillery unit.
His extensive academic background in political science and his fluency in seven languages have allowed him to play a key role in a wide range of diplomatic and political arenas. Lion succeeded in strengthening relations and influencing dialogue between Europe and Israel through his various postings in the region; first as deputy chief of mission for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia; then as charge d’affaires for Slovakia and as first secretary in Vienna; and finally as counsellor for political and public affairs in Berlin.
