PolyU President visited Israel

  •   The first highest HKSAR education institute has visited Israel

    ​Prof. Timothy Tong of HK Polytechnic University led a delegation to Israel from 19-24 June 2012, invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

    The purpose of the visit was to explore collaboration activities such as student exchanges and joint research opportunities, as well as to learn more about innovation and knowledge transfers between HKSAR and Israel.
     
    Members of the delegation included Prof. Alex Wai, Vice President (Research Development), Prof. Kwok Yin Wong, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, Chair Professor of Chemical Technology, and Mrs. Winnie Eley, Director of International Affairs.
     
    The programme included visits to and meetings with:
     
    The Weizmann Institute of Science  - Prof. Daniel Zajfman, President and Mr. Dov Keren-Yaair, Senior Advisor to the President and Dr. Ami Shalit, Director & Academic Secretary of Feinberg Graduate School.
     
    Tel Aviv University -  Professors of the Fleischman Faculty of Engineering, Managing Director of Center for Nanoscience & Nanotechnology as well as a working lunch with Prof. Raanan Rein, TAU Vice President and Prof. Asher Tishler, Dean, Faculty of Management – Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration and others.
     
    Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa – meetings with Prof. Paul Feigin, Senior Executive Vice President and professors of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
     
    The delegation also had an official tour of the Knesset and a meeting with Mr. Otniel Schneller, Member of Knesset.

    The visit concluded with a working luncheon hosted by Ms Ruth Kahanoff, Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Mr. Hagai Shagrir, Director, North-East Asia Department and others.

    To strengthen their understanding of the country they also experienced the cultural and tourism sectors of Israel after the busy meetings.  
     
    The participants were optimistic that their meetings would pave the way for future collaborations among the universities and various planned exchanges are in the pipeline.
