Mekelle –– The Israeli Hadassah University Teaching Hospital gave 10 microscopes worth 7,000 Euros to Mekelle University (MU) College of Health Sciences in light of the flourishing partnership they embarked on. The granting ceremony is being held at Ayder Hospital today, Thursday, March 7, 2013.
Representing the Dean and community of Hadassah Hospital, Professor Shlomo Maayan handed the microscopes to Dr. Kindeya G/Hiwot (Academic Vice Chancellor and acting President of Mekelle University) along with Dr. Zerihun Abebe (Dean of College of Health Sciences, Mekelle University). The equipment is presented to be used for Histology studies for MU medical students.
The partnership between the two medical institutions, established this year, focuses mainly on the areas of joint grant soliciting and joint research undertaking endeavors. Hence, both institutions contribute to widening the spectrum of scientific innovation paradigm in the medical field by way of exchanging knowledge and exposure.
It follows that Ayder Teaching Hospital contributes human skill and resources, which includes exposure for Israeli students and researchers coming from Hadassah Hospital to experiences in the developing world that may also be encountered in the developed world. The Ayder Hospital in return gains assistance from Hadassah Hospital capacity building trainings and exposure in order to render more advanced medical services.
Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ethiopia, Ambassador Belayesh Zevadia said, “We strongly believe that the partnership will play a vital role not only to develop adequate medical service delivery, but also to formulate advanced, higher standards in broader aspects of the field. We will keep building on this thriving cooperation in the future as well.”
Dr. Kindeya G/Hiwot and Dr. Zerihun Abebe both appreciated the gesture and acknowledged the commitment on the part of Hadassah Hospital to initiate this “great collaboration opportunity for mutual benefit”.
